HOW TO ENTER

We have designed Formula G to be an inclusive event with a very low barrier to entry for all. As such, entry requirements are minimal. You will need:

  • membership to Club Formula G;

  • a drivers licence (although we can accommodate 14–17 year olds in certain circumstances, please contact us to find out more!);

  • an MSUK RS Clubman licence (apply for free here);

  • a helmet (E-marked);

  • a fire extinguisher securely bolted in to the car; and

  • a car!

You can read the full regulations here to find out which modifications are permitted, and which are not.

We currently have three classes:
AWD, for cars with all wheel drive; 2WD Street, to include all RWD and FWD vehicles; and the 2WD Pro class for 2WD vehicles with engine conversions.

You can join in the action with whatever is on your driveway. Of course, your car will be checked over by the team to make sure the vehicle meets the minimum safety requirements.

Drivers can enter events via the membership portal.

Once your entry is accepted, you can start your preparations.

 HOW EVENTS WORK

Upon arrival and signing on, you’ll be given race numbers and stickers (if you don’t already have these), the Formula G team will come and check over the car, and will then give you the green light to head to the drivers briefing.
Drivers are provided with track maps following the briefing, and it’s here that races are won and lost. You’ll have to study and learn both the left and right hand lane. Drivers will then be allowed to head onto the closed track and walk both layouts. It’s important to make mental notes as getting lost on the track will result in a DNF.

ARRIVAL

The morning session is dedicated to open practice – you can run as many times as you need to master the course. Make sure you learn both sides, a spotter can be invaluable here.

MORNING SESSION

After a break for lunch, it’s time to qualify for the battles. Each driver will get four runs – two on each side of the track – to set the fastest time they can. Reaction times don’t count here, but penalties do! Your fastest time of the four runs will determine your opponent in the knock-outs.

QUALIFICATION

The top 16 drivers will then progress to the battles —now the pressure is really on. Reaction times now count, and drivers will compete head to head before switching sides to set the fastest combined time. The winner will progress to the next round, and the loser is eliminated. 16 becomes 8, then 4, and then 2!

BATTLES

Once the winner has been determined we hold a short podium ceremony to hand out prizes. As well as the top 3 in each category, we also award a prize to the Fastest Novice.

PODIUM

If you’d like to learn more, or fancy giving gymkhana a go, keep an eye on our Race Calendar for practice days and novice-only days. Alternatively, join the club to enjoy member discounts and be the first to hear about upcoming events.

 HOW TO HELP

There are a number of different roles we need help with on the day to make the event run smoothly — whether it is data entry, spotting, or paddock safety, we can’t do it without you. Find out more about marshalling at Formula G.
