60 second interview with Sarah Price
Today we are talking to Sarah Price, a Formula G novice driver in the Street class. Since starting gymkhana earlier this year, Sarah has fast become one of the drivers to beat with a super smooth style that, once the course is learned, is hard to keep pace with. If you want to experience Sarah's driving first hand, you can find her at a drift taxi event near you in her SR-powered E36 coupe.
John Birrell (JB): Hello Sarah! Thanks for taking the time to talk. Tell us a bit about yourself and, of course, the car!
Sarah Price (SP): I have been into drifting for around 9 years now, and have done a few drift competitions over the last few years. It all started from watching a drift day which I just fell upon and thought “that looks cool!”. I had to try it, so grabbed an E36 coupe a few weeks later, had the diff welded, and the rest is history!
JB: I first met you at the FG practice day earlier this year when you were pit crewing - what was your first impression of FG, and what made you want to have a go yourself?
SP: My first impression, funnily enough, was how complicated the layout looked… but I loved how it was set out and how challenging it looked. It was also so relaxed in comparison to any other motorsport events!
JB: Having been drifting for so long, how did you find the transition to gymkhana? What do you find most challenging about it?
SP: Happily I have found the transition to have been really good, the most challenging thing is trying to stop myself drifting when I get carried away! Oh and the starting lights, too!
JB: You've only done a handful of gymkhana events but we can all see how much you've progressed - how has this experience helped other areas of your driving?
SP: Driving in Formula G has really helped me with my confidence behind the wheel, as well as stepping up my precision when drifting.
JB: If you could go back in time 6 months with the experience you have now, what would you change about your car and approach?
SP: Pretty much the only thing I would change on the car is perhaps my diff ratio. As for me, I would relax more!
JB: What is your favourite thing about Formula G?
SP: Oh my gosh, by far my most favourite thing about Formula G is it’s seriously a family, and everyone made me feel so welcome from day 1.
JB: Highlight of the season so far?
SP: Highlight so far has got to be my first podium and the complete shock I was in, along with the banter!
JB: Any hints or tips for anyone thinking about giving Formula G a go?
SP: To anyone wanting to get into Formula G I would say just go for it, don’t be put off by anyone or the layouts, and come join this amazing family! For drifters wanting a go you will be amazed how much the precision and skill helps.
JB: And finally - your usual drift car is an SR-powered E36 saloon - will we be seeing you take on the Pro class next year?
SP: I will definitely be in for a full season again next year, and yes my E36 coupe will more than likely be joining the Pro class… if I don’t get another car just for Formula G!
