It’s about to get serious…

Practice Day — Round Up

Ahead of the season’s opening rounds in June, we held a Practice Day at Santa Pod on 19 March. It came around far too quickly, but fortunately we were blessed with beautiful weather at a (mostly) dry Pod. With fewer sign ups than usual our drivers had as much seat time as they could take on our test track, which was loosely inspired by Ken Block’s Gymkhana 1.

We had a good mix of Street and Pro drivers, with novices returning after their Learn to Gymkhana! taster day last month, some old faces returning after a long break from the sport, and even a pro drifter fresh out of BDC (RIP).

As always, it was great to watch the progression as the day wore on, with all drivers getting to grips with the track quickly and slowly getting faster and faster. Driving standards were really high as always, and those planning to compete in FG this year are certainly going to have some stiff competition!

Gabe Krunkauskas lost his diff in the process but still did enough to set the fastest time in 2WD Street in his mk3 MX5

As always, we had a competitive element to the day, with FTD awards for both Pro and Street. Gabe pushed his mk3 MX5 to the absolute limit, ultimately destroying his diff, to take the top spot in Street with a time of 45.081s. Mantas, once again demonstrating his and his V8 MX5’s capabilities, took the prize in Pro with a time of 41.132s.

Mantas Sliogeris took FTD in 2WD Pro in his V8-powered MX5

Thanks once again to our wonderful marshals, without whom we couldn’t run such great events!

Rounds one and two will be on 3 and 4 June at Santa Pod, and we hope to see lots of you there! Tickets now available on the website here!
